Many deer live in the coastal range behind Yachats and, when its not hunting season, they often come down into town in early morning or late evening.
Sometimes they come all the way down to the waterfront probably to lick salt off the rocks from the ocean spray.
Its unfortunate that in order to do this they must cross US Highway 101 and at least one or two don't make it each year.
